Holiday Shop

PTSA Holiday Shop is Back!

Kids can shop for friends, teachers, and family at our PTSA Holiday Shop. All gifts will be wrapped for free so kids can enjoy the gift of giving. Feel free to stop by ROOM D4 on the following days and times:

Tues 11/29 Wed 11/30 Thurs 12/1 from 8-9:30 11-1:30 and 3-4:30

Young Writer’s Conference

Van Arsdale Young Writer’s Conference

It is time again to celebrate the many writers here at Van Arsdale. Our Van Arsdale Young Writer’s Conference will be Friday, April 15, 2016 from 8:00 to 8:40. Students will be sharing their writing in small groups that will be facilitated by parent volunteers in the gym with a light breakfast. All participants should bring some of their writing to share. Examples include: a “published” a book, story, poem, essay, non-fiction article, etc..

If your child is interested in participating, please return the registration form in your Friday Folder, complete the on-line registration form on the PTSA website (here), or contact Michelle Jones at mmorrisjones@q.com. Please submit registrations by Friday, April 8th, 2016.

Read-a-thon

Hi Van Arsdale Families,

Today, Friday, February 26th, is the first day of our first ever Read-a-thon at Van Arsdale!!!  Student packets were sent home in your child’s Friday Folder.  Each child has a username and password assigned to them.  If your child received the wrong packet, please return it to your teacher on Monday!!  You must activate their account before they can log any minutes or play with their owlvatars (avatars).  Please visit the site www.whooosreading.org

Our primary goal is to help the kids be excited to read.  We are encouraging the kids to read 20 minutes per day, 7 days a week.  That totals 7 hours over the next 3 weeks.  We also hope we can earn some money to give our school as we close out the 2015-16 school year.  We hope that you will send at least 2 sponsor invitations to grandparents, friends or other family.  There is no minimum requirement for donations.  Sponsors are free to donate as much or as little as they like.  They can make a set donation or make a pledge per hour of your child’s reading.

There are weekly prizes for top readers in each grade and everyone who reads the minimum 7 hours will receive a customized Van Arsdale Read-a-thon waterbottle.  The top overall readers in each grade will win a $15 giftcard to Barnes and Noble.

The Read-a-thon runs from February 26-March 18.

PTSA Executive Board Volunteers needed

Van Arsdale PTSA is looking for volunteers to serve on the Executive Board next year

All positions are open for next year. The new slate of officers will be announced at our February meeting.

President: The President will create agenda/conduct executive and general meetings once a month, send officer reports and membership reports to COPTA, help prepare for registration, help prepare membership campaign, welcome back staff lunch, hold introduction committee chair meeting, file with CO Secretary of State, update bylaws as needed, set school calendar with principal, and help recruit committee chairs.

Vice President (2 VP’s serve on the board): The Vice presidents will share the following duties: help create membership campaign, help prepare registration, welcome back staff lunch, parent teacher conference dinner for staff, and all fundraising,

Treasurer: The Treasurer will file fiscal report with COPTA, attend registration, have budget meeting, prepare budget reports for general meetings, respond to check requests and cash request for events and activities, track budget, balance bank statements, prepare and file annual audit information to COPTA, and prepare and file tax returns.

Secretary: The Secretary will take notes/minutes at each executive/general meeting, hospitality, prepare PTSA directory, post general meeting minutes on the PTSA website, and file minutes in the library binders.

VP Communications Facebook: Maintain and update PTSA Facebook page, update and send out PTSA online Friday Folder weekly

VP Communications Website: Maintain and update school website, give list of events to be listed on school marquee to front office staff, give morning announcements to front office staff, help create and maintain online forms

9th Annual Parent/Child Dance

February 5th, 2016 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

pic1Please join us for the 9th annual Van Arsdale Parent/Child Dance.  It will take place on Friday, February 5th, 2016 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.  The cost is $10.00 per family and this dance is for Van Arsdale students only (no siblings who do not attend VA please) and their parent(s), grandparents or other relatives.

The theme this year is “Space Odyssey” – you can dress up in anything space related (Super Hero, Star Wars, Star Trek, Astronaut, Alien, etc. – but dressing up is NOT required.

This fun and exciting night is for Parents and their Students to enjoy some quality, fun time together with their fellow students and friends.  Please click here to sign up.

Calling piano playing students – we need you!

Dear Parents and Students,

Grandparent’s Day is just around the corner (November 20th)! Each year we help welcome our special visitors with musical entertainment as they walk around the hallways enjoying the artwork, writing samples, etc.

Once again, we are in need of students who study piano to perform for our guests. There is no specific time limit and pieces may be serious or fun. Students who are working on shorter pieces (less than 30 seconds) are invited to prepare 3 or 4.

All performers will gather in the main hallway near the display case at 1:15 p.m. Students will play their song(s), then go to the end of the line and rotate through again. They may end up performing 3 or 4 times depending on the total number who sign up to perform. We will conclude the performances by 2:30 p.m.

Please fill out and return the sign-up sheet to Mr. Carpenter in the Music room by Thursday, November 12th if you are interested in performing. You may contact Mr. Carpenter at tjcarpen@jeffco.k12.co.us with any questions.  (Sign up sheets can be found on the Grandparent’s Day page.)

Grandparent’s Day

On Friday, November 20, 2015 Van Arsdale Elementary will host the annual Grandparent’s Day celebration!  Grandparents (or other “special guest” if grandparents cannot attend) are invited to spend time with students in their classroom and enjoy special performances.  Go to our Grandparent’s Day page to sign up.
