It is time to celebrate all of the young authors in our school. The “Van Arsdale Young Writer’s Conference” will be Friday, April 18th, 2014 from 8:00 to 8:45. Students will be sharing their writing in small groups that will be facilitated by parent volunteers in the library as they enjoy a light breakfast. All participants need to have written and “published” a book, story, poem, essay, non-fiction article, song, etc.. “Published” indicates that the piece has been carefully edited, revised, and recopied as a polished piece. This event is appropriate for all writers!
If your child is interested in participating, please return the registration form in your Friday Folder by April 15th, 2014. If you are interested in helping with the event, please contact Michelle Jones at firstname.lastname@example.org.

This years show will be held on Friday, March 14th, 2014 at Drake Middle School (12550 W 52nd Ave, Arvada, CO 80002) from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. We have moved the show to Drake in order to use their auditorium and to accommodate our growing crowd. There was a sign up sheet in theFriday folders this week, or you can click on the link and print one from home here! VATalentShowFlyer
There are a few important notes about the talent show.
- Due to the number of students we need to coordinate for the show, ALL sign up sheets are due no later than Friday, February 28th by the end of the school day.
- If your child is singing a song, or performing to a song with the words, a copy of those lyrics MUST be turned in with their sign up sheet on the 28th.
- If there sign-up sheet and the lyrics (for anyone using a song with words) are not turned in by the 28th, they will not be able to participate in the talent show.
- All students are allowed to be in (1) act (either a solo act or a group act that cannot exceed 3-minutes).
- If they are in a group act, EACH person from that act MUST turn in their own sign up sheet (but only one person needs to turn in the lyrics) in order to be in the show.
- If you will be having music with your act, the CD (edited and ready for the act (no longer than 3-minutes)) will be due no later than Friday, March 7th and must be turned in at the mandatory talent show meeting at 8am.

The annual Parent / Child Dance is coming up on Friday, February 7th, 2014 from 6:30-8:30pm in the Van Arsdale Gym.
This is the 7th annual event, the theme this year is “Black and White” and as always, it is a great time for both students and families. The cost is $10.00, and that is per family (regardless of how many students you have at the school). It is open up to Van Arsdale students and their parents (or other relatives, Grandparents, Aunts/Uncles, etc). Please come join us for another great year of music, dancing, games, raffles and a great time with your family and Van Arsdale friends. You can print off the Dance flyer and turn it in to the school with your $10.00. If you should have any questions, please call Jay Charness at (303) 731-7731.
We hope to see you all at the dance!
Bring your friends, watch an event – and enjoy delicious BW’s food. Enjoy between 5-9 pm. You will simply need to bring a coupon (that PTSA will be distributing as we get closer to the date), and BWs will donate 15% of the proceeds back to Van Arsdale !
Address: 15570 W. 64th Ave.
Calling all Musicians!
Each year Van Arsdale Elementary students and staff set aside a day to honor those very special people who have helped us become the who we are: our Grandparents! This year, the celebration will take place on Friday, November 22nd. As part of the day’s activities, students in grades 2-6 are invited to do a musical performance, either vocal or instrumental, in the library. If interested, please fill out this form and return to Mr. Carpenter in the Music room no later than Wednesday, November 6th. Because of the amount of time necessary to compile and organize the list of performers, this is a firm deadline. Late entries will not be accepted. Once a final list is compiled, specific performance times and additional information will be sent home with all performers.
Calling All Artists!
Don’t miss the opportunity to share a picture of what grandparents mean to you. If your picture is selected, it will appear on the cover of the program given to all the grandparents/special adults on Grandparent’s Day, Friday, November 22nd.
All artwork will be displayed on Grandparent’s Day for everyone to enjoy!
Return artwork to the office or your teacher by Friday, November 8th.
Be sure to review the rules and size guidelines for artwork (see below)
On Friday, November 22, 2013 Van Arsdale Elementary will host the annual Grandparent’s Day celebration. Grandparents (or other “special guest” if grandparents cannot attend) are invited to spend time with students in their classroom and enjoy special performances.
The following times are scheduled for grandparents to visit student classrooms:
- Kindergarten (AM only) 10:25 – 11:15
- Kindergarten (full-day) 12:15 – 1:05
- 1st grade 12:40 – 1:30
- 2nd grade 1:10 – 2:00
- 3rd grade and 4th grade 1:35 – 2:30
- 6th grade 2:05 – 3:00
- 5th grade 2:20 – 3:15
There will be a light snack provided in each classroom or pod, and beverages will be located outside of each pod for convenience. A photo station will be available for grandparents to have a picture taken with their grandchild and receive a keepsake of this special day. Guests are invited to enjoy ongoing individual music performances in the library. A schedule of these performances will go home with those children performing by Monday, November 18th, and will also be listed in the program each grandparent/special guest will receive.
Parents, if you have more than one student that a grandparent/special guest needs to visit and times overlap, please let them know that most teachers begin first with their program and then will allow the student to share their classroom and a snack. This will help grandparents plan their time so they can visit each classroom. Additionally, please note that there will be limited parking that day. If possible, we wish to save the closer parking places for those grandparents who are less mobile. Here are some suggestions that might help to allow ample parking for guests: Consider carpooling if a student has multiple grandparents attending that might ride together. Grandparents could also take students home from school to minimize additional vehicles during afternoon pick-up. It might also be helpful for parents to “drop off” grandparents that afternoon. There is no parking allowed in the bus loop, however, the bus loop will be available for drop-off only for those who need assistance getting into the building. Additionally, please remember this day is meant for your child to spend time with their grandparent or other special guest. If you wish to snap a few photos, it would be helpful if you do so quickly and then allow grandparents & grandchildren to have their special time together. You are welcome to enjoy the music performances in the library while you wait for grandparents to finish in the classroom.
If your child does not have a grandparent or other special guest to attend this event, please let us know. The Van Arsdales will be present and will try to spend time with these children.
If you have questions about this event, please contact Diane Ranta (303) 437-4380 or email@example.com.

Dear Van Arsdale Mountaineers,
It’s that time of year again — BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION! Last year your hard work paid off and we collected 18,494 Box Tops for our school. Can you believe it?! That meant we received a check for $1,849.40 to buy new items for our school. Way to go!!
Can you imagine what would happen if we challenged ourselves and set a goal to collect 25,000? 30,000? 50,000? Mountaineers can climb any height set before them so let’s see what we can do this year if we put our minds to it. Here’s how parents and students can help.
1. BUY your favorite Box Tops products.
2. CUT the Box Tops from the package. Have your child help you by cutting around the dotted line neatly.
3. GLUE your family’s contributions to the fun collection sheet in your child’s Friday Folder and SEND it into your child’s teacher. OR you can SEND in your contributions in an envelope or ziploc bag.
All teachers will be collecting Box Tops in their classrooms for 3 weeks until October 25th. We will be rewarding the class that collects the most Box Tops with a special prize! Please help us race to the top and reach our goal!
Thank You For Your Support
